Enjoy local talent and scenic nature at Gigs in the Garden this October

Hatch Foundation and Springfield Sister Cities Association present Gigs in the Garden, an outdoor concert series at 2 p.m. on Sundays in October 2024. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a variety of local performance groups in an extraordinary setting.

The concerts take place at the Peace Through People Pavilion located within the beautiful Kay Cummins Finnie Memorial Dogwood Garden at the Springfield Botanical Gardens at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park, 2400 S. Scenic Ave., Springfield, Mo.

Admission is free with a $10 suggested donation to support garden accessibility projects. Beverages are available for purchase, and kids will love the playground nearby as well as the free, hands-on cultural activities.

Dallas Jones and Molly Healey kick off the series on Sunday, October 6 at 2 p.m. Dallas and Molly have been playing music together for more than 20 years. They perform a wide range of original music and cover songs that will get your toes tappin’ with their acoustic rhythms and soulful harmonies.

Next up is Johnnie Angelia King and the Anointed Voices on Sunday, October 13 at 2 p.m. Angelia studied musical voice at Arkansas State University and has traveled the world performing and singing. She has put together a gospel extravaganza featuring Dawn Gutierrez, Jacqueline Swan, and Evangel University’s four-piece band, Voices of Praise.

Jin J. X continues the series on Sunday, October 20 at 2 p.m. Jin is a jazz guitarist and singer-songwriter of more than two decades originally from Chicago, Il. He uses looping and jazz harmony to express and improvise with lyrics that touch on race, class, and matters of the heart.

On Sunday, October 27 at 2 p.m., Aaron Mayer closes out the series. Aaron’s specialty is writing songs that sound great with a band but can also be played solo. His music does not fit a specific category. The common theme is that every song has emotional, soulful vocals with a grooving rhythm behind it.

In the case of inclement weather, the concerts move inside the adjacent Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center.

The series is sponsored by Hatch Foundation, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Mid-Missouri Bank, and Tom Finnie. It is managed by Springfield Sister Cities Association in cooperation with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.

The Peace Through People Pavilion was constructed in late 2016 to encourage more cultural performances and community events in the Springfield Botanical Gardens.
