2023 Taste of Tlaquepaque: Dia de los Muertos

at the Gillioz Theatre, 325 Park Central E, downtown Springfield

Get ready to experience the vibrant culture of Mexico without leaving Springfield! Join us for Taste of Tlaquepaque, a festive celebration of Springfield’s 20-year sister city relationship with Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico. This year, we honor the rich and colorful tradition of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, a time to remember and celebrate the lives of our loved ones who have passed away.

Artisan

Andrea Romero, artist from Tlaquepaque

You will be amazed by the stunning décor featuring authentic ofrenda displays and artwork by Tlaquepaque artist Andrea Romero. Romero is a talented visual artist, and she is also the most recognized Catrina makeup artist in Jalisco. Catrinas are elegant and whimsical skeletons that symbolize Dia de los Muertos.

Concert

Grupo Musical Canela, band from Tlaquepaque

At 7pm, you’ll enjoy the lively music of Grupo Musical Canela, a renowned musical group from Tlaquepaque. They’ll showcase the best traditional and popular music of Mexico and Latin America that is sure to get you up and dancing. Through their stories and songs, you’ll also learn more about the history and meaning of Dia de los Muertos.

We are thrilled to auction week’s stay at the beautiful Casa de la Cosecha in Tlaquepaque!
