Gigs in the Garden: vibrant outdoor concert series returns to the Springfield Botanical Gardens in May

Hatch Foundation and Springfield Sister Cities Association present Gigs in the Garden, an outdoor concert series at 2 p.m. on Sundays, May 5, 12 and 19, 2024. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a variety of local performance groups in an extraordinary setting.

The concerts take place at the Peace Through People Pavilion located within the beautiful Kay Cummins Finnie Memorial Dogwood Garden at the Springfield Botanical Gardens at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park, 2400 S. Scenic Ave., Springfield, Mo.

Admission is free with a $10 suggested donation to support garden accessibility projects. Beverages are available for purchase, and kids will love the playground nearby.

Eddie Gumucio kicks off the series on Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m. Known for his introspective folk-pop and worldly perspective, Gumucio has built a reputation as a critically acclaimed and perennially reliable singer/songwriter.

On Sunday, May 12 at 2 p.m., folk-country sisters Maddi Warren and Alli Butler help mark Mother’s Day. Warren has molded her gritty, mountain and soulful sound for 13 years, and Butler joined the mix four years ago with her bass and harmonies.

Republic Community Band closes out this series on Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m. Republic Community Band is an intergenerational organization that plays instrumental versions of hits from classical music, Broadway, movie soundtracks, pop/rock medleys and much more.

Arrive early on Sunday, May 19 for the Springfield Sister Cities Annual Celebration from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The event features cultural performances, Mexican and Japanese food trucks and drinks. Sister Cities members receive free food and drink vouchers; purchase a membership at the event or at peacethroughpeople.org/membership.

In the case of inclement weather, the concerts move inside the adjacent Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center.

The series is sponsored by Hatch Foundation, Mid-Missouri Bank, and Tom Finnie. It is managed by Springfield Sister Cities Association in cooperation with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.

The Peace Through People Pavilion was constructed in late 2016 to encourage more cultural performances and community events in the Springfield Botanical Gardens.
