Springfield Sister Cities Association (SSCA) and Grupo Latinoamericano (GLA) are excited to announce two upcoming concerts featuring Grupo Musical Canela, a musical group from Tlaquepaque, Mexico, one of Springfield’s sister cities. Canela will perform their lively and diverse music that blends traditional and contemporary styles from Mexico and Latin America on July 29 and October 13 in Springfield.
SSCA and GLA are local nonprofit organizations that share a common goal to enhance Mexican cultural awareness and appreciation in southwest Missouri. SSCA encourages “peace through people” and connects Springfield with its sister cities of Isesaki, Japan and Tlaquepaque, Mexico by creating and promoting opportunities to foster multi-cultural awareness and appreciation. GLA sponsors and promotes cross-cultural social activities, serves as a community resource, and brings together Hispanic, Latin and North American individuals and families for mutual support and friendship.
The two organizations are partnering to bring Canela to Springfield as a way of celebrating the vibrant and rich culture of Mexico while strengthening the ties between Springfield and Tlaquepaque. Canela is a talented band that showcases the best of Mexican and Latin American music, from mariachi to salsa, from cumbia to bolero, from ranchera to rock. Their music is energetic, passionate and fun, and it will make you want to dance the night away.
