As part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the relationship between Springfield and Tlaquepaque, SSCA will host free educational events to learn about Mexican culture. In the week leading up to Artsfiesta! a series of dance and music workshops will be taught by accomplished performing artists visiting from our sister city. The workshops will culminate in an exciting evening celebrating Mexican culture at ArtsFiesta! on Friday, May 3rd at the new location on Park Central Square.
Dance Workshops
Two members of Tlaquepaque Folkloric Ballet will teach free lessons for traditional folkloric Mexican dances over five days of workshops before ArtsFiesta!
Each day during April 16-20:
Free workshop at 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Free workshop at 7-9 p.m.

These classes are open to all age groups, and suitable for beginning to advanced dancers.

Music Workshops
Three music teachers from Tlaquepaque will offer free workshops to teach musicians how to perform traditional Mexican mariachi music. Participants should have some knowledge of music and already play the guitar, violin or trumpet.
The teachers – Jesus Cervantes, Bernando Ruvalcaba, and Enrique Quezada – will also bring a vihuela (a guitar-like instrument with six double strings) and a guitarron (a large, acoustic bass). Both are integral to mariachi music and be available for guitar players interested in learning those instruments.
The workshops will take place at the Christian Church “Casa de Oracion”

ArtsFiesta! on Park Central Square
Friday, May 3 from 6-9 p.m.
These dance and music workshops will lead up to the annual ArtsFiesta! event on Friday, May 3, from 6-9 p.m. at its new location on Park Central Square. ArtFiesta! will have free admission this year and showcase the returning Mariachi Viva Xalisco performing with local dance troupes.
New features include bilingual stories and crafts for kids at Park Central Branch library and a beer tent sponsored by Mother’s Brewing.
